The Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman boast a great diversity of cartilaginous fishes of which sharks with nearly 150 different species constitute a major part. Contamination of the fishes with various chemicals necessitates the meats produced being controlled from health and quality Points of view. In this study, mercury bioacumulation in 29 specimens of Caracarhinus dussumieri caught in the coastal waters of Bandar-e- Lengeh was tested using flameless atornic obsorption spectrophotometry. Results of the analyses on muscle tissue of the cited fish revealed the mercury level being lower than the standards (0.5 PPm) of the WHO at p‹.01 significant level. The length range was determined to be 68-90 cm in males and 67.5 -88 cm in females. Mercury level in males (n=21) was assessed to be 0.21 PPm while in females (n=18) it was 0.19 PPm. Average mercury level was estimated as 0.19 ±0.023 PPm......

Ichthyophthiriasis is one of the most important parasitic diseases of fishes causing heavy mortality by means of seven skin and gill damage. In November 1993, the disease detected in it's early stages in a small Barbus sharpeyi culture-pond containing about 3000 Fingerlings. Due to improper environmental condition in the pound and Presence of many stress factors, the disease rapidly developed and mortality rate reached to about 80%. A variety of drugs and chemicals have been recommended for treatment of Ichthyophthiriasis through various methods, none of which especially addressing treatment of Barbus sharpeyi. In this research project, and after considering various mixture of drugs, a combination of formalin and malachite green was used giving very promising result. After the application of mentioned drug, the fishes were transferred to another Pond with better environmental condition to compliment the treatment procedure. Sampling and microscopic examination one month after treatme.....

The coast of the Hormozgan province has been divided into five strata. From west to east, the five geographical strata are, Lengeh, Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Kolahi and Jask. The statistical procedure used in the study takes into consideration four boat type categories that are distinguished on the basis of carrying capacity, 1 ton boats, 1 to 20 tons, 20 to 50 tons more than 50 tons and four gear types; gillnet, trap, hooks, beach seine, with tunas being caught mainly by gillnetters and in minor proportion with lines. No data are available for the Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island geographical strata. Longtail tuna is dominate species in the tuna catches of the Hormozgan province, followed by the two species of seerfish (Scomberomorus) and by yellowfin tuna. The three main strata; Lengeh, Kolahi, Jask, for which completes sets of catch data is available call be taken as being representative of the three main fishing zones of the Hormozgan province. A. thazard is caught in all the thre....

56 Sampling sites were established in the study area in the depths varying from 40 through 80 meters. Sampling sites were grouped into 7 sampling areas and in each site benthic fauna sampled with "Van Veen Grab". Based on the acquired results it can he said that in the southern coastal areas of the Caspian Sea, family of Neriidae is dominant and in contrast family of chironomidae shows a poor density. Also, the frequency of benthic fauna in the southwestern parts of the Caspian Sea is much greater than southeastern parts. Data analysis carried out using, a non-parametric method called Kruskal-wallis......

Ecological characteristics a Barbus grypus, B.sharpoyi, Capoeta trutta, Mugil abu, Tenualosa ilisha and Johnius belangerii, occurring in Zohre river were studied, among fresh water fishes, B.grypus showed versatility in its habitats, thus occurring frequently in the river. In contrast. B.sharpeyi, a stenohaline fish, was found only in a limited section of river reaching to the estuary. C.trutta even so being stenohaline, covered a wider range of the river in comparison with B.sharpeyi, thus showing more compatibility with varying phsico-chemical environments. Amongst anadormous fishes, Mugli abu covered a greater part of the river and it seems likely the fish spawns two times a year. The occurrence of this species shows a peak in summer and winter. On the contrary, T.ilisba occurs only on spring and summer in the river, evidently for spawning. Apparently, the preferred environment for the Spawing of the latter ought to be alkaline and have low salinity and high oxygen content accompani.....

In September 1990 during a 19 days study, Mugil sp was cought in Babolsar fishing area to determine various ovulation phases. It was found that up to day 7 from study onset, nearly 60 percent of the fishes were in the 4th gravidity phase after which the fishes in the 5th gravidity phase were dominant in the catch prolonging up to day 15. Concurrently, the fishes in the 4th gravidity phase decreased. From day 15th on, spawned fishes showed a maximum along with a decreased percent of fishes in the 4th and 5th gravidity phases. The results of this study can be usefully employed in the management of fishing of the species......
