We investigated antibacterial effects of sodium acetate (2%) on microbial, biochemical and sensory characteristics of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) vacuum packed and stored during 18 days at 2±1°C. Initial total bacteria count was 2.82 logfulg, indicating quality of the prepared fish was high. Psycrotrophic bacteria of unheated and treated vacuum packed samples reached maximum acceptable limit (7 logdaig) after 14 and 18 days of storage, respectively. Entrobacteriaceae and lactic acid bacteria count were lower than maximum acceptable limit during 18 days. Therefore, we based determination of microbial assessment of products shelf life on time to reach maximal acceptable limit for Psycrotrophic bacteria in treatments. There were no significant difference (P>0.05) between vacuum packed and sodium acetate vacuum packed samples in TBA and TMA values. During most of examination time, TBA and TMA values of sodium acetate vacuum packed samples were lower than untreated vacuum packed sam.....

We investigated effects of water quality on growth of the Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) reared in Heleh region of Bushehr in the south of Iran. Physico-chemical parameters such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH and clarity were investigated in three 0.5ha shrimp ponds. Nutrients (nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and total phosphate), magnesium and sulphate as water quality factors were also investigated. Using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), a significant correlation (P<0.05) and inverse relationship were detected between water temperature and salinity with increase in length and weight of the shrimps. The morning pH values had no relationship with length and weight increase in the shrimps (P>0.05) while the afternoon pH values had negative significant correlation with the growth factors (P<0.05). Dissolved oxygen had positive significant correlation with the studied growth factors (P<0.05). Also, the total phosphate had negative significant correlation .....

We measured biometrical properties of kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum) and mullet (Mugil cephalus) in Iranian coastal waters of the Caspian Sea along caught with a new Beach Seine mesh size and the results were compared with that of common Beach Seine (control). The results indicated that newly designed Beach seine, catches less nonftbstandard fish than the control. The proportion of non-standard kutum and mullet in the new Beach Seine was 7.7 and 1.1 percent respectively; these results in control were 67.1 and 29.98 percent. The average length and weight of kutum and mullets, caught by newly designed Beach Seine was higher than the control. The Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE) in the two types of Beach Seines was approximately the same. The results showed, by promoting this newly Beach Seine, we can largely prevent fishing of non-standard bony fish (immature) in the Caspian Sea coastal waters......

This research was conducted during 2007-2008 with the main aim of classifying marine coastal habitats in Gwatr Bay located in Iran-Pakistan border, south east of Sistan-Blaluchetan Province. We used Coastal-Marine Ecological Standard Classification (CMECS) with three data layers covering water column, benthic cover classifier and geomorphology. Layers and habitats information were analyzed in a GIS environment and the indicator species were determined. WCC classification was done based on temperature, salinity and clarity classifiers for Ichthyoplankton communities. The result showed that two main seasonal habitats including spring habitat (spring, summer and winter) and fall habitat, affected by the monsoon season is present in the area. Also we considered particle size and total organic matter in sediment as classifiers for benthic habitats which indicated two different habitats based on distances from shore. Habitats were divided into unmixed macro-benthos community (polychaete) and.....

Culture of sturgeon species is of great economic and ecological importance for those countries such as Iran whose natural stocks have declined. This species has shown a good growth performance in many types of production systems and in tanks with different sizes. Recently, sturgeon species is also offering good prospects for aquaculture in north of Iran, including: Guilan, Mazandaran and Golestan provinces. Several species of sturgeon are now considered attractive candidates for whole-cycle production in Iran. Production analysis may help manager of a sturgeon farm in decision making and in adjusting to changes. Economic assessment provides a basis not only for decision making among farm managers but also for formulating government aquaculture policies. Over the period 2006, based on previous experiments with cultured cam, shrimp and trout farming, total costs, total income, profitability and the contribution of production costs for sturgeon farming were determined by completing questi.....

Caspian trout (Salmo trutta caspius) is an anadromous and valuable fish species in the Caspian Sea. Electrolytes concentration (Mg2+ and Ca2+) and kidney and gill development trend were studied in different weight groups. Specimens in 4 weight groups 5, 10, 15 and 20g. Each trial was done in 3 replicates. The observation of kidney glomeruli in histological sections showed that the diameter of glomeruli in all weight groups in Caspian water decreased after 72h adaptation period (P<0.05). The decrease in 5 g fish was less than the other weight groups (reached 1100inn in 72h). Difference of glomeruli in 5, 10, 15 and 20g groups after 72h of move to the Caspian water in comparison with time of zero was calculated at 500, 1600, 900 and 1300111112, respectively. The results showed that mean diameter of proximal tube in 5, 10, 15 and 20g in time zero was 37.8±4.9, 33.4±3.9, 36.5±7.3, 34±5.9gm, respectively and this parameter reached 41.3±9.1, 33±3.I , 33.4±2.1 and 36.1+6.1 gm after 168 hours .....

Type-A gelatine was extracted from skins and bones of lizard fish and analysed for functional and chemical properties. Bloom gel strength was 159.14±14 and 135±7.9g, respectively, for skin and bone gelatines compared to 2243±7.7 for porcine gelatine (P<0.05). Gelatine from skin and bone exhibited higher viscosity and lower setting temperature than porcine gelatine. Skin gelatine had higher amino acid composition than bone gelatine, with a total amino acid content of about 21.71% and 19.83% for skin and bone respectively. Alpha chains were higher than pi and 6 components in skin and bone gelatine. Both bone and skin gelatines contained peptides with low molecular weight (<a). The differences in functional properties between the skin and bone gelatines appeared to be related to differences in amino acid composition and molecular weight distribution of the gelatines......
