In 1993, 66 live Grass carps, Ctenopharyngodon idella, were transfered to the laboratory of the Fisheries Research Center in Khouzestan Province. 42 of them were apparently healty and the remaining 24 had the following symptoms Dark body colouration on posterior region, petechia on the mandibula, operculum, abdomen and pelvic fins, loss of the scales, inflammation around the anus, eye hemorrhages, hemorrhages in the anterior chamber of the operculum, petechia on the muscles, swelled intestine, occasionally with yellowish - white muscus, fin rot, pale gills and liver. The microbiological investigation and bacteria culture from the gills, kidney and liver of the apparently healty fishes and the diseased fishes showed that some of the fishes in both groups were infected by the Aeromons-like bacteria. Some speciemens of this species were isolated from the internal organs (kidny and liver) and the gills. This study revealed that such organisms may cause mortality in the Grass carp farms......

Different length - weight relationship in 1000 male and 201 female of freshwater crayfish were studied and it was revealed that the length - length relationship is best described through linear regression, while weight - length relation is best described through a multimodel one. The "r" coefficient was over 90% in all cases. It was also shown that the average length of the females was more than the males, but the average weigth of the males was more than the females. The percentage of males and females with total length more than 102 mm were 63.7% and 72.1% respectively......

The toxicity of five herbicides, Propanil, Machete, Rilof-H, Saturn, and Ronestar, commonly used in Iranian rice fields, were investigated in acute toxicity bioassays on two organisms belonging to different ig dquatic food chain. Compared with Daphnia magna, green algae Selenastrum capricornutum, showed more sensivity to the herbicides. Machete and Saturn were the most toxic herbicides for algae. Three other herbicides, having more effect on the toxicity rate were Ronestar, Rilof-H, and Propanil. The toxic herbicides for Daphnia magna were Rilof-H and Saturn, and the others showed less toxicity. Comparing the amount of 6 to 23 mg/1 field concentrations of the herbicides with 0.01 to 12.46 mg/1 MAV-values for Selenastrum capticomutum and 0.446 to 9.5 mg/1, MAC-values for Daphnia magna in laboratory experiments revealed that the herbicides would certainly kill all useful organisms in aquatic food chain such as algae and zooplanktons in rice fields, and would damage other neighbouring eco.....

The study was conducted in Syiah-rud River. The fishes were belonged to five families: Cyprinidae, Atherinidae, Gobiidae, Mugilidae and Cobitidae. The aquatic plants was composed of three groups: marginal, submerged and floating. Among the submerged aquatic plants, potamogetons was the most dominant family and had a large distribution in station IV. 37 genera were also identified from four Algae phylum. There were twelve families in benthos population, which had more abundance in station II. In study of water quality, 15 physical and chemical factors were measured. The highest amount of phosphat was 3.12 mg/1 which was seen in stations III and IV. Also the highest amount of NH4+ and N were seen in station III, probably due to existing sewage factories in this region......

The tench, predominantly lacustina fish, lives in stagnant or sluggish water-bodies with silt covered bottoms. The artificial propagation aimed to produce fish fries for re-stocking programme in natural ecosystems. The brooders comprised of 130 female and 80 male fish. The individuals weight of fishes ranged between 0.2 - 0.45 kg. The female and male fishes caught from wild stock, were separated and kept in two earthen ponds. The biotechnique of carp production were used for culture process. The eggs stripping conducted 8 times according to the ripeness of the brood stock. 60 femal spawners were injected by the Gonadotropic hormone from pituitary glands of carp fish to induce the brooders. The used dosage was between 3-8 mg per kg of body weight, applied in two doses. With only one treatment, 6-8 mg hormone were injected per kg of body weight. Water temprature were 20-24°C in June. Male spawners were treated only once with 3-4 mg of the hormone per kg of body weight. The experiment sho.....

Due to the variety of fishes and fisheries resources the Shiroud River is considered as one of the most valuable rivers in the west of Mazandaran Province. Therefore the infection rate of the fishes in the river with parasites was examined in Aquatic Disease laboratory of Mazandaran Fisheries Research Center. Among the observed parasitic infections, we will refer to Clinostomum complanatum, which may cause laryngo-pharyngitis in human. The examined fishes were Cobitis taenia, Capoeta capoeta,Neogobius fluviatilis, Carassius auratus, Albumoides bipunctatus, Chalcalburnus chalcoides, Barbus barbus plebejus, Leuciscus cephalus, Alburnus alburnus. Among the mentioned fishes Capoeta capoeta had the highest rate of infection with Clinostomum complanatum. In the research, Alburnoides bipunctatus and Cobitis taenia were introduced as the new hosts of this parasite......

The ribbon fishes, belonging to the family Trichiuridae, are one of the most important protein resources in the Indian Ocean. A considerable density of the dominant species of this family, Trichiurus lepturus has been observed in the Oman Sea. During the conducted cruises in the northern part of the Oman Sea, Gonadosomatic index (GSI) and Hepatosomatic index (HSI) were estimated according to the size of the female groups of Trichiurus lepturus. GSI increases significantly from September to next April (P <0.05). Polymodal egg size frequency revealed prolong spawning time by the females. The HSI fluctuations are good indications for this type of reproductive behavior......

The Anzali Lagoon is situated in the south - west of the Caspian Sea (37, 28 N 43,25 E). Its surface area is 218 sq.krn. To study the distribution and abundance of Chironomid larvae a sampling was conducted biweekly in 25 stations in 1992. The Chironomid larvae had the maximum abundance compared to other benthic organisms during the study period. The maximum abundance of Chironomidae was seen in spring. The population of aquatic insects was diminished gradually in summer, and again increased from the middle of autumn to winter. Their monthly average in the lagoon was 125 ± 53 per sq.m. The number of larvae in the western basin (Abkenar), southern basin (Siyahkeshim) and eastern basin (Sheyjan) were 187 ± 62, 172 ± 136 and 137 ± 86 larvae per sq.m., respectively. In the main outlets of the lagoon, there were 9 ± 2 larvae per sq.m., monthly. On the other hand no Chironomidae larvae were observed in the Siyandarvishan River located within the limits of the sampling area except in spring a.....
