Abstract

Population size structure and density of pearl oyster Pinctada radiata were surveyed in major pearl oyster beds along the Iranian coast of the Persian Gulf. The population in Nakhiloo was composed mainly of large individuals (> 70 mm in dorsoventeral measurement of DVM) with a density of 36±32.4 shell/m2 , Teecy & Lazeh, however, revealed a size structure in which small individuals (<50 mm DVM) were dominated. The density of shells in Teecy & Lazeh were 59.2±15.45 and 16±41.46 per m2 receptively. Possible reasons for the observed pattern of population size structure were discussed......
